today I climbed into the middle of the bamboo and made myself a nest, and almost fell asleep there.

it was the most at peace and comforted I've felt since I don't know when. hidden, trusting the bamboo to hold me up, listening to the creek behind me. watching the birds and the sky from inside the bamboo, snugged down inside it like a mouse in the tall grass.

maybe small, close natural spaces are where you can seek refuge when the big wide world threatens... love the image of you resting there

I told my nine-year old daughter about it this morning. she was quite impressed that I'd parted the bamboo and made my way inside to the middle, and we agreed it might be a good idea to cut a circle inside, and make a slightly more permanent nest there.

the big wide world doesn't threaten so much these days (and how accurately you've described me there) but I do love small cozy spaces. it wouldn't surprise me at all to know that whatever I'm made of came from mice and birds and trees, and things like that. I do like man-made as well as natural things, but I'm most definitely a tree-hugging dirt-worshiper. I prefer hand tools to power tools - I do like the thrill of power tools in small doses, but they're usually too noisy and fast for me. I like to work slowly and quietly, so I can hear the birds and frogs sing.
