the first time that I opened my eyes and fell in love.

it was to the recognition of my mother's softer face. and that of her mother, my aunts, my sister, and all my daughters.

one unbroken shining chain, backwards and forwards.

oh this is beautiful! The first time I was hypnotized I was asked to go back to my last moment of feeling completely safe and instantly I was in my mother's arms as a small child, looking into that face that was, as you said, the softer face...

love your words, "one unbroken shining chain."

thank you Pauline. I've never been hypnotized, though I remember one time at the bar I was working in (back before I started mothering as a career. the pay was better, the hours about the same) when a hypnotist of the stage show sort of variety was entertaining the drunks. it wasn't all that hard, they're often easy to entertain. most of my time was spent fending off advances and trying to make sure I was adding everything up properly - I was myopic as can be but too vain to wear glasses. I made pretty good tips even though my drink orders were occasionally a little mixed up. I squinted a lot.

the first time you were hypnotized - how many times have you been hypnotized? what's it like?
